Diogo Canina is my favorite BMX rider out there today. Last year at the BMX super park finals he got my attention as a man of style, determination, and courage. He came out winning silver to the 2 time gold winner Daniel Dhers. This year I crossed my fingers hoping he would take home the gold. And boy did he get close, as close as possible.

SO this how it went down yesterday: Diogo was in the first of two heats in which he scored the highest score from his group as well as the group that biked in the 2nd heat. That's definitely something to be proud of. Usually there's something called a "final" that takes place after the leaders of the two heats are established, but this year ESPN thought it'd be cool to cut things short. After the second heat they announced Canina as the gold medal winner! I sat there initially confused about this...I mean I paid to see a FINAL. But hey, my boy won! I just decided to clap along with the rest. Diogo looked so happy on his buddy's shoulders fist pumping, high fiving, and chucking his helmet and pads into the bowl. Then after half the audience had left the announcer was like "oh...mang...uhhh...yeah...you're gonna have to give that back dawg. We lied."

Oh ESPN you kidders. Acting like you guys don't know how your own competition works. Ashton Kutcher then came out and told Diogo he got Punkd and took his check and medal and told him he'd have to skate in the finals now.

So he did. And he lost. By one point. Scotty Cranmer: 132. Diogo Canina: 131.

Bummer.
